The Importance of Being Bored

Now, I might sound a bit old when I say this, but when I was a child I was not entertained 24-7.  Technology wasn’t really a thing (but don’t get me wrong it has lots of benefits as long as it doesn’t rule our life).  I had lots of time being left to “play” with my dolls or draw, make up dances to music, play with our dog or read. Obviously I watched TV but we only had one TV so it wasn’t always showing something I liked.

Recently I have been establishing certain nights when my children have access to their technology (apart from when they need it for homework etc).  This continues to cause some push back from them!  But what I did notice was my daughter went through her Christmas gifts and started to do this amazing grown up paint by numbers piece (I now want one!) and my son has spent lots of time practicing his base guitar and painting.

When a child is left to play on their own they have time to use their imagination, remember old toys and enjoy being a child again - as childhood is so short!

What sort of things does your child enjoy doing when having free time to play?
